Stronglight Impact Double Compact Crankset Review

I was looking for a nice, old school looking crankset that would work with a modern 2×10 drivetrain and found the Stronglight Impact double crankset.  It fits my vision perfectly, have a look:

I really think this crank has the vintage look but is made for modern 9/10 speed chains.  Forged alloy crankarms are made with 6061 silver anodized aluminum, with a BCD of 110 mm.  Arms come in 165, 170, 172.5, and 175 mm lengths.  Chainrings are also silver anodized aluminum with stainless steel screws, and have a lot of gearing variations: 46/36, 48/34, 48/38, 50/34, 50/36, 50/40, 52/39, and 52/42.  Works with conical JIS square taper bottom brackets like the Tange Seiki UN 3922 or Shimano UN55 size 107 mm.  It even comes with the Xtractor bolts which make it so you don’t need a crank extractor tool to remove the arms.

Stronglight has been around for a very long time and even made many cranksets for vintage bikes.  They trace their history all the way back to 1903, so I think they know how to make a crankset.   

I really think this is a great option if you want a classic look for a modern drivetrain.  And from my research it’s the only option offering 165 mm length.  Plus, the price was cheaper than most of the modern cranksets for 9/10 speed.  I got mine from The Cycle Clinic:

I will update the review after install and after some miles.  Really looking forward to finishing up my build, it should look amazing especially with this crankset.
