Tommaso started in 1985 as the house brand for Ten Speed Drive Imports (TSDI) out of Melbourne Beach, Florida. The name can from the owner, Tom Eason, Tommaso is Italian for Thomas. Italian frames were imported and then painted and built in the USA.
I haven’t been able to confirm, but I believe TSDI was in business since the 70s. They imported many great Italian brands including Guerciotti, Ciocc, Cinelli, and Rossin. I’ve also seen evidence they may have sold Woodrup and Masi at one time or another. Many of their frames were bought just primed and then painted in the USA with DuPont Imron paint. At some point they also had a TSDI West shop out of CA. I believe the company closed sometime in the 90s.
The Tommaso frames may have come from multiple sources, but Billato seems to come up the most. They appear to be very high quality bikes, check out this one:

The Tommaso brand still exists and is run out of Denver, Colorado. Here is their website:

Very cool, I’ve heard of this brand. Do all the bikes you write about a part of your cycling stable? Bikes that you’ve maintained and built up?

No I don’t have that many bikes. Many people email with questions and then give me permission to use pictures for a post. Would be fun to have them.

I love the touches that you don’t see any more – like the stamped-out “T” in the head to downtube joint lug and fork crown. Even without decals, you’ll know it’s a Tommaso.

I remember Thomas Eason while I was at Daytona Beach with many times spent in Melbourne Beach even played against schools there. He went to have 3 companies with the last in 1991. None of the companies are still active. Thanks for the area memories Cheers

Interesting that you have experience with the company. Did they go out of business in 91 then?
