My friend wanted to save a few dollars on a new hybrid bike for his daughter and landed on the Gravity Dutch from Bikes Direct. I of course offered up my services to help put it together and get it tuned up.

They shipped quickly and I think he got it in like 4 days. Came in a nice box and was packaged well.

It took us a little under 2 hours to get it fully assembled and tuned. I was unable to install the front fender as it was missing two screws for mounting. The only other issue I found was one of the brake pads had fallen off, so I had to find the washers throughout the box.

I’ve built a few bikes so I was able to do all the assembly faster than most probably could. If you are assembling a bike for the first time, make sure to watch some assembly videos so you do everything correctly, take your time. Nothing with assembly is too difficult, but it’s important everything be done right.
What needs assembly?
- Remove foam and packaging from parts.
- Seatpost installed. Do this first so you can hold the bike in the stand while assembling other parts.
- Install stem and handlebars.
- Inflate and install tires/wheels.
- Tune the brakes.
- Tune shifting.
- Install fenders.
Specs
Alloy frame
21 speed
Shimano Tourney derailleurs
SRAM gripshift MRX-204
Zoom front shock
Shock seatpost
Adjustable stem
Kenda Comfort-ride 700 x 38c tires
Ride
Nice, upright riding position, with lots of adjustability. 38c wide tires with front shock and seatpost shock absorb the road bumps nicely. Very comfortable ride.
Quality
Comparable to any other bike brand, uses the same Shimano components with just a few cheaper brands like the brake calipers and crank.

Rating
For $299 it’s a really nice comfort bike. It has everything one would want for comfort including front shock, comfort seat, and nice wide tires. If you know how to assemble a bike this is a great deal. 5 out of 5 stars.
