Cheapest MIPS Helmet Bell Revolution Review

Because I’m frugal, I decided to see how cheaply one could get a MIPS bicycle helmet.  After searching around, I landed on the Bell Revolution for just a little over $30 on Amazon.  I think it’s got a good look and comes in black and red for adults.  The red one matches my new mountain bike well.  Check it out:

Stats:

MIPS equipped of course

Standard dial fit

14 vents

Adult and children’s sizes

Complies with the U.S. CPSC Safety Standard for Bicycle Helmets

Lightweight

Designed and built in the USA

What is MIPS? It stands for Multi-Directional Impact Protection System. Designed to reduce rotational forces and somehow give you better protection. I can’t say I fully understand it, but it’s the new thing.

I like this helmet, but the shell was a little disappointing.  Rather than the sort of thick shell I’m used to, it has a really thin shell that is glued to the foam in certain places.  So, some areas it isn’t glued down.  It still looks fine as you can see in the pictures but makes me worry it may come loose.  For now, I’m going to assume Bell knows what they are doing, and it’s glued to last.  If I have any issues with the shell, I will report back.  For now, I’m giving this a 4 gnome rating.  It’s cheap, meets the helmet safety standard, and I look good in it.  Plus, it matches my mountain bike nicely.  Not as nice as the Costco MIPS helmet I previously reviewed, but I think that one is gone from stores now.
